Characteristic of comedian’s Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart, the lead up to the GOP primaries and the mockery of the American political system is being brought into the spotlight again. This time, Comedy Central comedian Stephen Colbert is not supporting the Democrats, but the Republicans and making an ‘exploratory’ run for the President of the United States of North Carolina (indicating that North Carolina IS the United States when it comes to the state of the USA). It’s not the first time Colbert has pushed the political forefront by bashing the commonplace and challenging the status quo. Unlike his liberal counterpart Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert has taken the conservative right wing persona to the “Nation’ and called on his followers to collect in masses and make a statement of political and social change – albeit with comedy and tongue and cheek smirkiness.
Surprisingly, if you listen through the absurd comedic banter and peer through the slickly polished persona – a real statement is being made about the contestants in the GOP race for control of the country and how they can rise and fall based on the influence of Super Pack money out-buying commercial airtime 2 to 1 over actual candidate. Not surprising, former Colbert Super Pack “Americans for a better tomorrow, tomorrow” was ceremoniously transferred to Jon Stewart before running advertising in North Carolina claiming Mitt Romney is a ‘serial killer’ becasue of his corporate affiliations and experience when ending jobs as the head of a corporation. How will this play out in the south? How will the rest of the candidates survive when the south rises again? It may be hard to believe the southern hospitality will accept Romney as a viable candidate even though he has been the tortoise in this GOP rabbit race.
And now officially John Huntsman has pulled his hat back from the proverbial ring. With his exit, conservative evangelical’s have no choice but to throw support to the inevitable front runner. Mitt Romneys’ last failed attempt at the White House run in 2008 fell to John McCain and now infamous Sarah Palin. If Romney does pull ahead as a front runner, his demise might be the selection of the running mate and just how the rest of the states perceive his opposition approach. Tearing down the commonplace may be just what this disconcerted country needs…
